facts

...so if you don't have an 8 year old this will sound like blah blah blah blah blah so sorry.... but i have to blog this so i remember this conversation it's one of those defining character moments we see as parents of our children.... anyways we were coming home from school the other day and he starts telling me, well mom i passed my 7's today (translation they do timed tests in random order of math facts and it's multiplication and division, i think speed equals accurate memorization or at least that's the concept). Well... i knew these tests were coming up and since we memorized all the facts last year in my best effort method of "teach to the test" (which earned eyebrow raising from spouse) so noah and i would recite 7 14 21 28 35 42 49 56 63 70 77 84.... and so on for each number through 12.... i wasn't worried.... it's the one trait he inherited from me.... being goal oriented.... whatever it takes to finish the job all short cuts are ok unless otherwise stated..... (because cheaters never prosper).... so as he's telling me i say, 'hey that's great we haven't had a chance to review those at home' and his reply kind of caught me of guard 'oh whatever mom 7's are sooooo easy... 7*3 that's 3 touchdowns 21 see?' I personally would never have used football for sevens.... too many variables... but in Noah's world they always get the extra field goal point and they never go for the 2pt. conversion. It's the perfect strategy to describe his blend of optimism and conservatism...total noah....
